China on Thursday confirmed the meeting between Chinese State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi and U.S. Deputy Secretary of State Wendy Sherman, saying the two sides will exchange views on bilateral relations.

Sherman is on her trip to Asia. She visited Japan on Tuesday, the Republic of Korea on Thursday and will travel to Mongolia before paying a visit to China's Tianjin Municipality from July 25 to 26.

Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Zhao Lijian confirmed the visit, adding that Sherman will meet with Xie Feng, China's vice foreign minister in charge of China-U.S. relations, and hold talks with Wang later.

China will state its principle and stance on developing the bilateral relations as well as its firm attitude in defending national sovereignty, security and development interests, said Zhao.

China will demand the U.S. side immediately stop interfering in China's internal affairs and stop damaging China's national interests, stressed Zhao.

The spokesperson also expressed China's strong dissatisfaction and opposition to Sherman's negative statements on the East China Sea and South China Sea, as well as her serious concerns over China's Xinjiang and Hong Kong during the meeting with Japanese Vice Foreign Minister Takeo Mori on Tuesday.

Reiterating that Taiwan, Hong Kong and Xinjiang issues are China's internal affairs that allow no foreign interference, Zhao said China has lodged solemn representations to both Washington and Tokyo.

Nobody should underestimate Chinese people's determination, willingness and capability in safeguarding national sovereignty and territorial integrity, noted Zhao.

Speaking of the maritime issues, Zhao reaffirmed China's willingness to settle disputes through consultation and negotiation while stressing that foreign interference in regional issues is not in the interest of regional countries and will only disturb the peace and tranquility of the region.
